Re: VZ.58 M.A.R.S
Mark,
My issue with it is that if you get really used to squeezing the trigger twice to chamber a round, and then fire once that muscle memory is ingrained, how will this impact your use of a semi-auto? (.22, shotgun or for those of us that shoot overseas?) With the LRA9 (which is still on my wish list!) its a separate deliberate motion to release the bolt/cock the hammer so will not impact you when using a normal semi-auto. It might be a non-issue, but it's my concern. I'm really happy that there is more choice in the market for us UK-limited shooters though!
It does make a mockery of the semi auto ban though, much like LBR's, LBP's and modern muzzle loaders make a mockery of the handgun ban in some respects!

I thought they were built so that this was not possible ?Blackstuff wrote:I've got a lever release rifle and i can honestly say its one of the safest gun i've ever shot (action-wise). You know exactly what the gun is doing and whether its got a round chambered, the bolt is open or if its misfired. Given the similarilaties I imagine this will also be the case with this gun.
Using only the trigger to operate the gun will make things less complicated than having to use a lever or button (and hence another digit/thought process), and imo, even safer. It will also stop the problem i've got with my lever release where i'm resting my thumb on/pretensioning the lever in order to get off the next shot as fast as possible but i've put too much pressure on and when the gun recoils it makes my thumb push the lever past the release point while the bolt is in motion - the mechanism doesn't lock the bolt back and it goes forward again, chambering a round but not having cocked the hammer (as its supposed to). This has accounted for 95% if not 99% of the failures to fire i've had with my LRA9![]()
I really don't get the safety concerns with this gun and i'm struggling to imagine the circumstances where the mechanism would cause any more of an issue than a lever release, or semi-auto. The gun will be used for target shooting so just like any other target gun you'll keep it pointing down range at all times anyway?
Surely if it rechambers albeit not cocking hammer it is wandering into a very grey area regarding section 5 ?

My LRA9 will likely be up for sale soon so watch this space!techguy wrote:Mark,

My training regime with the MARS rifle would be to simply 'double tap' the trigger for each shot, both trigger pulls would be while the gun was pointed at the target. However, the gun would always be pointing down range while in use so even if i did have a brain fart it would never be discharged while pointing in an unsafe direction

I'm not worried about the use of the MARS action itself, more of the possibility of a brain fart when using a semi-auto!

No they are designed (and passed as S1) so the trigger doesn't reset and hammer doesn't cock if the lever is held down (either deliberately or mistakenly).breacher wrote:I thought they were built so that this was not possible ?Blackstuff wrote:I've got a lever release rifle and i can honestly say its one of the safest gun i've ever shot (action-wise). The ones that failed the S1/S5 test the first time around could be fired again if the lever was held down as they were determined to be semi-automatic. My original gun was allegedly one of those ones but i didn't try it while i briefly owned it, or see actual evidence. I did speak with the police armourer about it, while he was on holiday in Spain  , as the person in the FLD gave me his personal mobile number!! clapclap

Re: VZ.58 M.A.R.S
Ok so I have had permission from Scott at CCA to share this video of one of the prototype Vz 58 M.A.R.S rifles being tested. (please note that this is a prototype with a very short barrel)
Also note I have no affiliation with CCA other than being a very happy owner of two of their fine firearms (and hopefully at least one more in the future)

A 9mm would make the most sense for me as I could shoot it every week but one of these is .223 would be sweet. Would it be eligible for CSR?
