Makes me wonder where the average club shooter with no aspirations to do more than shoot an occasional card for pleasure with a S/A rimfire will stand in all this. my hope is they will be allowed to continue as normal.
Article 50, have I missed something on the news, last I read the start of next year has been suggested.
I know clubs have differing views on this, my last one didn't put much effort into competitions whilst my current one has them regularly.
Then again they are not onerous in my current club. On a day when there is a competition a casual paper puncher can enter and then put "Competition" for the reason in the club record book.
My reading is rimfires are largely left alone and centrefires are just a case of (this is mainly for continental europe, non applicable here since 1988) have to be a member of a club, it sounds like doing competition is one condition and being a member of a club is another and only one had to be met and the other just be a bonus. So not much changes, though I do wonder about the use of semi autos in hunting in places like Germany since any semi can be used there in a hunt as long as a 2 round magazine is used (no mag capacity for manual opp, thus that Speed line, Troy selling Pump action AR's there and according to shooting sports, Robinson Arms were showing off the XCR's meant for here as "Self-opening" actions (made me wonder if the delays in Lodock getting them is Robinson arms wanting to sell them around the world, especially since California now has banned the bullet button and has had to rethink production, maybe even take on more staff?).
It does read like a cluster and made me wonder if Vicky Ford and her sidekicks are out of their depth (she pretty much said that on facebook to be fair though).
Does it matter now we are leaving, with all the work on Brexit I don't think any new EU legislation will be introduced.
And as we are leaving it would be wrong to try and influence another country's laws by signing a petition.

I would love to lobby our laws, I would love to overturn the handgun ban and the ban on semi auto centre fire rifles, I just don't know how to take it forward in the best way.
Yesterdays attack in France shows just how much nonsense all this gun ban / gun control gibberish really is. A large TRUCK just been used to kill some 80 odd people....

The Oklahoma bombing used a truck too (168 killed, nearly 700 injured) as have countless middle-eastern atrocities. Dangerous things these HGVs - better make them Section 5 quick! Ah ... but I would like food on the shelves in the local supermarkets next week too.
It's just easier to kid people that 'guns kill' when the dangerous man (or woman) who really wants to massacre the public will always find other means - many of them far more effective than an AK in the hands of someone with limited training.
One thought that struck me was that the perpetrator was very quickly confronted by armed police officers who shot him dead. If he chose the a festival evening in a British seaside town, how long would it take for an ARV to arrive and armed officers to deploy? Several people have noted that we are appallingly vulnerable to a Mumbai or Chalrie Hebdo type armed gang attack if it takes place outside of large cities.

The EU provision prohibits centrefire semi-automatic firearms, and loading devices (magazines), with one or more of the following characteristics:
a) semi-automatic long firearms (i.e. firearms that are originally intended to be fired from the shoulder) that can be reduced to a length of less than 60cm without losing functionality by means of a folding or telescoping stock.
b) firearms which allow the firing of more than 21 rounds without reloading, if a loading device with a capacity exceeding 20 rounds is part of the firearm or is inserted into it.
In the UK for semi-automatic shotguns to be subject to Section 1 firearm certificate control they must have a minimum barrel length of 24 inches (60.96cm) and a minimum overall length of 40 inches (101.6cm).
For the purpose of calculating overall length; any detachable, retractable or other moveable butt-stock should be disregarded. Therefore Section 1 shotguns that conform to the UK criteria fall outside the EU provision unless their capacity exceeds 21 rounds."
Now call my cynical but, b) worries me :( What about 22lr or centre fire rifles with 30 round mags such as straight pull variants of the AR types or those with lever/MARS/Button mechanisms?
There is no evidence that limiting a semi-auto or straight pull magazine to 20 rounds has any ability to reduce the amount or rate of fire.

Anyone got a firearm with an integral 21 round plus magazine? thought now unless it's Airsoft!!!!!!!!!!
Stupid plan if ever there was one - not that they would confuse firearm with magazine capacity!
A petition saying "NO - nothing will be banned" is needed.
