EU gun ban - its happening!

Just had an update from David at BASC,

"Firearms which allow the firing of more than 21 rounds without reloading will be placed into the prohibited category (EU Category A). They will however be permitted under the following conditions;

a) the target shooter participates in shooting competitions organised by an official shooting sport organisation recognised by a Member State or by an internationally established and officially recognised shooting sport federation; and

b) the target shooter is a member of a recognised shooting club, regularly practises target shooting and has been doing so for a t least twelve months."

I would just like to take this opportunity to thank BASC and all our gun owning and shooting represenatives for bending over and accepting this royal shafting on our behalf.

What about non competitive gun owners and shooters?

So a 10/22 or virtually any of the modern .22LR Black guns with a potential magazine capacity greater than 21 rounds is to become category A????

What happens if someone decided to build a 22 round AICS type magazine, does this render all weapons that accept an AICS magazine system Cat A?

One thought that struck me was that the perpetrator was very quickly confronted by armed police officers who shot him dead. If he chose the a festival evening in a British seaside town, how long would it take for an ARV to arrive and armed officers to deploy? Several people have noted that we are appallingly vulnerable to a Mumbai or Chalrie Hebdo type armed gang attack if it takes place outside of large cities

What would happen is the terrorists would have clear run to kill as many people as passable, unarmed police would hold back to armed response arrived probably to late.

Until the Council Voting Report is actually published I cannot be 100% certain, but my understanding is the semi-auto restrictions will only apply to centre fire, thus rimfire is unaffected.

Well isn't Point A and B the current UK legislative situation already? Point B actually exactly describes a non competitive gun owner and shooter.

The two reasons that are accepted as a good reason are Pest Control or membership of a Target shooting club. Point B doesn't even mention regular competition as a requirement for Good reason. The only thing if note is 12 months probation/membership time. That tends to vary between clubs for a new member without FAC.

I would actually say rather than shafting us our representative organisation have helped ensure Pest Control shooters are not caught up in a ban.

It what sense? The exceptions for semi-autos with a capacity of more than 21 pretty much exactly match current UK Firearms legislation.

As far as I can make out this is a victory for shooting sports, for the UK it is no change in effect. As long as you are a club member then rock on and buy a Mini Black rifle with a HUGE drum magazine!
