Weeeeellllll, that is not exactly an onerous situation. My club just has regular competitions on the books, they are often not that serious but it allows you to put "Competition" into the club record book.

If that is the limitation then I think we should count ourselves lucky especially as that is arguably the current UK situation already.

Within the document posted on p1* of this thread the concerns regarding semi autos (centre fire only) are transitional and subject to further discussion and voting.

Semi-automatic firearms for civilian use which resemble weapons with automatic mechanisms (including rimfires) according to the document will fall into Cat B - I'm not fully up to spec with EU firearms categories but I think this indicates nothing has changed.

Well I am not happy about it, if it is as how I read it. I am a non competitive shooter so if I want to keep the firearms that I have that come under this ruling then I must shoot competitions.

That is an imposition and curtailment of my shooting as I have no intention of entering competitions, there is far more to gun ownership and shooting than entering bloody competitions.

I am a target shooter, I shoot at targets but I am not a competitive shooter so this ruling impinges on me and gun owners and shooters like us.

I feel that my gun owning and shooting interests have not been represented by the organisation(s).

BASC statement from the 13th July

BASC welcomes the position adopted by a European Parliament committee which will prevent a ban on firearms used by those who shoot.

Vicky Ford MEP chaired the Internal Market Committee (IMCO) as it steered through suggested changes to European Commission amendments to the firearms directive.

The effect of these changes will ensure amendments which would have damaged shooting are not taken forward.

If passed into European law as expected this autumn, this updated directive will largely focus on closing loopholes around deactivated and imitation firearms while also introducing robust controls around high capacity semi-automatic firearms. This is an attempt to prevent access to the sort of weapons used in recent terror attacks.

This final amended directive means that .22 rimfire rifles used for pest control in the UK will not be caught up in new restrictions. IMCO’s latest position also reaffirms that those under the age of 18 may continue to possess their own firearms.

Matt Perring, BASC’s senior firearms officer, said: “BASC is pleased that these proposals focus on illicit weapons rather than law-abiding gun ownership. The original proposals were a knee-jerk response to recent terror attacks and would have forced unintended consequences on legitimate gun owners, including sporting shooters, collectors and the trade.

“Vicky Ford must be congratulated for her hard work in ensuring that the voice of legitimate shooting organisations throughout Europe was heard in this matter. The Commission’s original proposal was poorly drafted in many parts, but she ensured those issues were adequately addressed.”

BASC chairman Peter Glenser said: “It is important to close loopholes which allow firearms to fall into the hands of terrorists. But it is also essential that new laws do not unfairly penalise those who wish to shoot for sport or for a living.

“Vicky Ford has been a steadying influence throughout all the stages of the process and I’m sure she will continue with this approach as talks start with EU governments to deliver the final directive.

“Whatever the outcome of Britain’s membership of the European Union, it is crucial that BASC continues to work with decision makers in Europe. It is business as usual.”

Do remember that centrefire semi-automatic firearms includes the self-loaders in S7(1) and S7(3) and S1 shotguns with detachable mags, if in either case enough rounds will fit. And it's not good for European shooters in countries where semi-autos are currently legal.

There is an article on a certain "news site" that implies that Southern Gun Company Lever Release and Caledonian Classic Arms MARS rifles "may" be affected depending upon the exact description of what constitutes a centre-fire semi auto rifle....

I guess 33rnd Glock Mags might become hard to get?
