Just endorsing what I know Tovarisch .......Although I have flirted with a couple of Lee Enfields (a No.4 Mk2 in .303 and a No.4 Mk1 in 7.62 NATO built by Charnwood Ordnance in 1988) and a Mauser K98 which had an interesting history as it was a 1943 DOU made at the Waffenwerke Brünn in Bystrica, Czechoslovakia, and complete with it's Nazi markings and later sold to the Haganah in Palestine and stamped with the Star of David next to the Eagle and Swastika!.Fedaykin wrote:The day Comrade snayperskaya does not recommend mother Russia's finest products the sun will implode!
Alpha.....how about a nice 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser?, there was a gentleman at Minsterley with one and I have to say I was very impressed with how accurate it was (very good indeed for a 100 year old rifle!) and how well made it was.Granted it appeared to have been unissued but credit where its due it did was certainly a fine looking rifle.*

I have had several 6.5x55 Swedish Mausers over the years. I hmmm. (Takes a deep breath.) No I will not be getting another one.
A swede is definitely not on my list.
I have also owned several milsurp Mausers over the years the last one I bought was £80.
But they are not on my list either unless its a sniper.
I think its definitely a P14 and may be a Nagant long rifle cos they are cheap.

In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Bloody Nora were are they getting these prices from for P14 rifles. Most of them are pap and they want the earth for them.
I don't think so. Finding a decent one at the right price could prove to be a bit of a challenge.
Nagant long rifles are not as cheap as they used to be either.

A Nagant (pronounced Na-Gon) is a revolver.....a Mosin (pronounced Mo-Seen) is a rifle, the Russians don't use the Nagant part of the name anyway.Alpha1 wrote:

You know that sucking sound people make through their teeth just before they tell you an unfortunate truth, I was just doing...
Prices are drifting up on the SOWR these days, long gone are the happy times where you could pick up an FTR'd No.4 in its packing paper and grease for less than £150. I am seeing some Mosin at the £250 mark but if you want a Sniper expect to spend far more money.
In the end the availability of Milsurp bolt actions is very much governed by what has been released from strategic war stocks by various countries. You are going to be hard pressed to find much in .303 being surplussed out so we are relying on what is already out there in the market. Sadly that is always going to be a dwindling number, these guns wear out and as that happens over time the guns available become less and less pushing prices up.
The reason Mosin are still fairly cheap is various countries were emptying their warehouses of them recently.
Next problem is America, there are still countries out there with stocks of surplus rifles sitting in warehouses but there are American companies like Century Arms actively out there buying it all up to feed their vast gun market. UK RFD can't compete against the purchasing power of companies like Century Arms. I will post a Forgotten Weapons video below to show you what I mean (snayperskaya make sure you have a defibrillator to hand as you might pass out with all those Russian guns in show...) Actually the firms in the UK with the biggest buying power are those that sell deacs predominantly, some here have gone to them direct to buy stuff at a good price before it is butchered.
The last really untapped source is China, apparently they have a huge amount of War Reserves stored up in warehouses including lots of FTR'd stuff from all over the world. The US State Department prevents American companies importing any of it so who knows what could be found but I bet an import license from the Home Officer would be an interesting challenge!
Sorry to be depressing but we are working with a dwindling source here, I suggest you decide what you want and get in quick.
Anyway an interesting video worth watching through as it does give a good overview of the state of the Milsurp market:

On 91/30 variants only the magazine spring attached to the magazine base plate and the stripper clip design are the only contributions of Leon Nagant......so not a lot!WelshShooter wrote:Yeah, stuff Leon Nagant, what did he know?!snayperskaya wrote:A Nagant (pronounced Na-Gon) is a revolver.....a Mosin (pronounced Mo-Seen) is a rifle, the Russians don't use the Nagant part of the name anyway.Alpha1 wrote:
