I don't care if Home Office regulations tell me a firearm should be out of sight, etc. I prefer to follow military practices, no firearm is left unattended and a personal firearm is never more than an arms length away.

Actually it suggests that it was locked:

'I parked the vehicle — I'm pretty sure I locked it — and gave a rabbit to my uncle and had a cup of tea.

'When I went back my dog was loose on the road and the back passenger door had been broken into.

As the door had been broken into then it suggests it was locked ... if it was not locked hen it would say "door found open".

I have mentioned it before and a few people have taken exception..... but I think it is asking for trouble putting the likes of BASC stickers on the side / rear of vehicles. I am also concerned about the practice of certain clubs leaving MOD ranges in convoy and heading to the local pub after a mornings shooting. The range in question is close to a yachting club, has a cycle / walking trail along the side and is frequented by everything from twitchers, ramblers and dog-walkers, all who can see across the open range....... who's to say that any of them are not taking note of car types / registrations and realising just how easy and quick it would be for a criminal gang to drive into the pub car park, break into club members cars and be off down the road? Its obvious to most people what might be inside a convoy of 4x4's when the tweed or camo clad drivers and passengers disembark. Even if the gun owners came running out of the pub, what are they going to do faced with a gang of criminals armed with baseball bats or even previously stolen guns? The days of club members owning handguns and wearing them while in the pub are long gone, so the criminals know that they would not meet any real resistance.

Yes, Yes! In an ideal world we should be able to publicise and be proud talk about our sport in the same way as other people.... but unfortunately we don't live in the ideal world.

There's too much of this 'I blame myself' self-flagellation going on these days.
The police and anti-gunners seize upon it and twist it into 'see! even gun owners acknowledge they are to blame for crime'.

Blame lies with the perpetrators of crime, not the victim, and it's about bloody time the police stopped being political and got on with the job the public tasked them with - fighting crime.

I agree that we should not live in fear, but conversely having BASC stickers on your vehicle is asking for trouble. It is for the same reason that RFD's don't typical drive around in vehicles emblazoned with their business details.... we all need to take precautions because there "are" bad people out there..... as members from several of my shooting clubs have found out when the have been mugged of their guns when unloading guns from their cars.

It is for the same reason that RFD's don't typical drive around in vehicles emblazoned with their business details.... we all need to take precautions because there "are" bad people out there..... as members from several of my shooting clubs have found out when the have been mugged of their guns when unloading guns from their cars.

According to a senior Regional Crime policeman , the police and Border Agency are now so successful at preventing illegal firearms entering the country , criminals are now targetting the shooting community to get firearms.

So are the criminals waiting outside ranges and shooting clubs to follow members home and attack them ?

Are the criminals waiting outside gun shops so they can follow shooters home and attack them ?

Are criminals just taking car numbers that are parked outside ranges,clubs and gun shops then getting the car owners details from some bent employee at the DVLA .

Are criminals even getting FAC and SGC holders details from a bent policeman or civilian employee ?

Whats next , will the criminals go for a carrier when they collect guns from the Proof House or a big distributor ?

Sadly the justice system goes after the soft option most times , so the person who had a gun stolen (the victim) gets penalised .
Yet the thief can walk around free , because the police cant or wont get enough evidence to satisfy the CPS .
