From my understanding, existing RCOs don't have to go through all the new crap.
Ovenpaa submitted a form and wrote a cheque, sent the two off to the NRA and back came a renewed RCO card.

That was also my understanding of the pro was for existing RCOs.

The new system is just a bigger hindrance to bringing in new RCOs.

Really...dripping with sarcasm...

We do not have enough competent willing to act RCOs as it is, if not enough is fed into the system we are going to end up with a problem.
Something someone somewhere would love to see.

Yep.
All part of the 'grand plan' as we all know.
Our small club is already seeing a looming problem ahead with the RCO/RSO issue in the near future.

I agree, it's going to be a problem. We've recently had a couple of members renew their RCO quals, but we would also like to put another member through the course. The doubling of cost for the courses, along with the doubling of time commitment for the course (probably at Bisley and all of the additional cost that entails) is not ideal.

The availability of RCO courses away from Bisley is spotty at best too.

The RSO course can't be used anywhere and is all the basics a prospective RCO should be being taught by their club prior to RCO course attendance anyway. I really struggle to see the benefit other than it putting cash into the Bisley coffers at the expense of the clubs across the rest of the country, clubs that need the RCO qual to shoot on MoD ranges.

The RSO course is a pre cursor to the RCO course.
RCO only required for MOD range use so for many clubs its of no use.
I believe both courses can be run at a location away from Bisley with some prior planning.

One of my clubs has 85 members, of which at least 11 are RCOs. The club paid their course fee.

RCO renewal requires the club secretary to confirm to the NRA that the individual has actively run shoots with firearms appropriate to his/her qualification.

RCOs are issued with competency cards that last for four years.

IMHO it's definitely worth the (lack of) hassle.

I have renewed my RCO this year (2018) and my SCC has just come back with an expiry of December 2019

Andy, do you mean 12 months or 4 years?
