Hands up all those who feel a single national police force with a clear detailed description of duties/responsibilities would be preferable to the current state of affairs..........

I've often thought that. Especially when reading about Derbyshire's well over the top responses to people going out to exercise during lockdown as compared to, say, Thames Valley Police who appear to be very reasonable.

However, what if we were to end up with the worst attitude throughout the land?
At least under the current arrangement there are pockets of reasonable adherence to guidelines.

Well I emailed BASC about their consultation response suggestion and at first was reactionarily defensive but following further emails have took onboard my, and my others on here interpretation/spotting the way this could be misused against FAC holders/legitimate people*. Whether they'll actually change their suggested response/do it in time that all their members that bother to respond will be captured by is of course an entirely different matter.

*using the wildly optimistic assumption this wasn't the purpose in the first place.

Consultation (haha..) deadline tomorrow Monday 15th February.

Three responses sent back from the adults in this household, but the expression "pi**ing in the wind" comes to mind. Not really expecting to see any outcome other than the usual Home Office rubber stamp - and the subsequent issue of the next set of proposed bans and restrictions.

This will be interesting, virtually everyone I know or have read about has replied so the uptake must be massive. What is the betting it turns out just 1,023 people replied.

I did the consultation a few days ago. I am of the opinion that whatever the results of the consultation the Home Office will say thanks for your input, but we are going to do what we want anyway. It is only a box ticking exercise. I mentioned on the young people with air guns section that I used to go about the farm on my own from about the age of 12 with a .410 shotgun because I didn't have an air gun. I also mentioned that my dad didn't need any type of certificate to buy the shotgun from the local ironmongers shop either.
It was my brother's shotgun really, he got it for his 16th birthday, a Cooey Model 84 single barrel .410. Unfortunately, a few years later, his son fired it with something in the end of the barrel and made a sort of muzzle brake out of the last couple of inches of barrel.

I responded and contacted my MP, who for once has shown some interest and asked for my views/comments to be sent to him. Obviously doesn’t mean much but at least he’ll get a different opinion. Its only the consultation , a way to go before and legislation is passed.

I've responded to this today. I've been making notes about it before about points to raise, and then when getting to submit the comments I typed them up and realised we are limited to 250 words. Its poor when you have to find the least important parts of your statements to try to cut them out whilst still getting the point over. Either way I still have a copy of all my responses and my other notes so if this gets further, I can forward them across to my MP. Although I do agree with comments above about this being a box ticking exercise where responses will be ignored.
I just find such a section about reloading will be harming to most of us especially in the way they have written it.
I've only been shooting for 5 years and really don't want to get the "chipping away" mentality that many other shooters and club members seem to have after a lifetime of law changes. We still need to oppose these consultations and legislation changes when they are being raised/discussed.
